Crescent City Schools believes that every child deserves a great school.

We are a part of the movement that believes all students can and will learn, and that it is each school's responsibility to provide an outstanding, high-quality education for every child. The mission of Crescent City Schools is to support and develop open enrollment charter schools that raise student achievement and prepare students for college. Our organization creates life-changing educational experiences for students and, through this work, transforms a city.

As a part of the ongoing effort to rebuild New Orleans public schools, Crescent City Schools took over Harriet Tubman Charter School, a K-8 school in Algiers, in the summer of 2011. Our talented team of educators and support staff prepared for the challenges and rewards of working in a school turnaround environment, and our students are evidence that our hard work is worth it.

In the summer of 2012, Crescent City Schools added Akili Academy to our portfolio of schools. Founded in 2008, Akili is a K-5 elementary school that will grow by one grade each year to become a K-8 school. Akili Academy is one of the highest-performing non-selective elementary school in New Orleans and joined the Crescent City Schools network as a way to continue that record of success.

In December 2012, Crescent City Schools was awarded the charter to take over Paul Habans Elementary School in Algiers. Paul Habans Charter School will open under the management of Crescent City Schools in summer 2013 and will serve grades PreK-6. Habans will expand in future years to serve grades PreK-8. We are currently building the leadership and instructional teams that will allow this school turnaround to be a great success.
